We drove into downtown Mansfield for lunch, then took a walk.

Richland Carrousel Park
The Richland Carrousel Park opened in 1991 with the first new, hand-carved carrousel to be built and operated since the 1930s. The 52 animals were carved in the style of Gustav A Dentzel and were produced in Mansfield by Carrousel Works. Denztel immigrated from Germany in 1860 to Philadelphia and worked as a cabinet maker before starting a carrousel company in 1867.

John Chapman, known as Johnny Appleseed, spent much of his adult life in and around Mansfield in Richland County. One story is that during the War of 1812, Mansfield residents feared a Native American attack. On August 9, 1813, Chapman risked his life to summon aid from neighboring Mount Vernon and Clinton.
